Le Mans solid
Le Mans ended its first Ligue 1 match of the 2026-2027 season with a 2-2 draw against Brest on 22 August. The game was played at the Marie-Marvingt Stadium, hosting its first Ligue 1 match, and saw the Sarthois score two goals through Dame Gueye (45th+2) and Louis Mafouta (55th). In front, Brest, led by assistant of the late Eric Roy, Julien Lachuer, opened the score but could not maintain the advantage. The team's return to Ligue 1 after sixteen years was welcomed by supporters, even without the iconic coach Eric Roy, who died in June of pancreatic cancer.
Lens and Lyon dominate
RC Lens largely dominated AJ Auxerre, winning 5-2 at Bollaert. The opening goal was scored by Florian Thauvin (12th), who also scored against PSG in the Champions League Cup. German coach Dino Toppmöller started the season in style. At Toulouse, Olympique Lyonnais beat Toulouse FC 2-0, with Noah Nartey (68th) and Malick Fofana (85th) scoring. The Lyonnais, 4th last season, thus launched their season with a clear victory.
Other results of the day
OGC Nice finished 0-0 against Lorient, saved in the nick of time from relegation. Troyes and Paris FC also finished 0-0. Marseille crushed Strasbourg 4-0 at the Vélodrome, taking the league lead thanks to a positive goal difference (+4). The Rennes-PSG match is scheduled for Sunday, reversed due to a poor pitch at Parc des Princes, while Lille awaits Angers and Monaco awaits Le Havre.
