Le Mans FC handed Seconde Ligue leaders FC Metz their first defeat of the season with a 2-1 away victory on Sunday. Kenza Chapelle scored both goals for the visitors in a commanding display.
Chapelle opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a header from a Bekti cross. Salma Zemzem equalised from the penalty spot for Metz in the 18th, but Chapelle restored Le Mans' lead just before half-time, finishing after a 35-metre lob hit the crossbar. Metz later missed a second penalty, taken by Zemzem and saved by the Le Mans goalkeeper.
Metz coach Lucas Guillaume acknowledged his team's struggles. "We have a young team that is eager to learn and we are in a learning phase, and that was seen today," he said.
This win comes as the club's first team, competing in Ligue 1, sits 9th with 6 points from five matches. Their next fixture is away to 6th-placed Paris Saint-Germain on October 10th.
For Le Mans, this Seconde Ligue performance, featuring former Metz player Pauline Dechilly, is a statement result. Captain Giffaut and her teammates controlled the game, limiting Metz's inspiration in the final third. Despite the loss, Metz remain in the promotion places ahead of a trip to Saint-Étienne in fifteen days. The team lineups are available on our squad page.
