Le Mans FC earned a valuable point at the Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain (3-1) on Saturday 10 October (20:45). Head coach Patrick Videira outlined a tactical approach designed to exploit the champions' fatigue.
Videira believed PSG's packed schedule presented an opportunity. "They are players who have had very little rest for two years," he said. "They play a match every three days." His team aimed to stay compact and solid while making runs to recover possession.
Striker Louis Mafouta pulled a goal back in the 54th minute from a Lucas Calodat assist, responding to Lucas Beraldo's penalty opener. PSG later scored through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Maghnes Akliouche. Goalkeeper Kocik and the defence held firm late on to avoid a fourth goal.
This result leaves Le Mans FC 14th in Ligue 1 with 6 points from six games. The next challenge is a home fixture against Toulouse FC, who sit 15th, this Friday 16 October. The squad will be without the sidelined A. Bourabaa.
"We're not going there to take photos," Videira had warned before the match. "We are there to play." His team lived up to that, finishing the game on the ropes but with another point on the board.
