Le Mans FC secured a valuable point away at OGC Nice on Saturday, playing out a 1-1 draw. Régis Le Bris's side showed tremendous resilience to hold on late in the game after going down to ten men.
A balanced first half
Adil Bourabaa put the visitors ahead in the 13th minute, assisted by Jannes Vercruysse. Nice responded before the break through Elye Wahi, who levelled in the 44th minute from a Sidi Diop pass. The first half was played at a high tempo with chances for both teams.
A tense finale
The task became harder for Le Mans when Noa Boissé received a second yellow card for a foul on Mohammed Amoura in the 82nd minute. Manager Régis Le Bris made a tactical substitution, bringing on Yasser Larouci for Lucas Calodat to shore up the midfield. Under pressure, goalkeeper Ewan Hatfout made a key save from a long-range Jonathan Clauss effort.
Louis Mafouta came close to putting Le Mans back in front in the 87th minute, his shot cannoning off the right post. A subsequent stoppage for an injury to Antoine Mendy led to four minutes of added time. In the dying moments, Harold Voyer forced Yéhvann Diouf into a save with a left-footed strike, sealing the draw.
Context and what's next
This result keeps Le Mans in 14th place in the Ligue 1 standings, with two points from three games. The team is now on a three-match unbeaten run in the league. They now return to the MMArena to host RC Lens on Sunday, September 13th. The upcoming schedule can be found on our fixtures page. The staff will have to plan without the suspended Noa Boissé for that fixture.
